The Sports Business Group at Deloitte is a unique team of specialists dedicated to work in the sports business in the UK and internationally. The Group’s work with clubs, leagues, governing bodies, venue operators and developers, major event organisers and investors, coupled with industry-leading commentaries, means that Deloitte is widely acknowledged as a sports industry business expert.

Alan is a director in the Group with 10 years experience and leads the Group’s horseracing and equestrianism assignments. His work has included the Economic Impact of British Racing report produced for the British Horseracing Authority in 2009, due diligence on several racecourses, the National Stud and the tote and a variety of business improvement and strategy projects.


Nick Attenborough, Director of Consumer PR, Racing Enterprises
Nick Attenborough is part of the team behind Racing for Change, the new initiative created by Racing Enterprises to modernize the sport and widen its appeal.

Prior to this role, Nick ran a London PR consultancy called Attenborough Saffron for over 25 years, working for High Street retailers, multi-nationals and blue-chip brands.

He also has a keen interest in the sport and has horses in training with Tom Dascombe and Brian Meehan.


Andy Clifton, Communications Manager, Cheltenham Racecourse
Andy Clifton is Communications Manager at Cheltenham, PR Advisor at Aintree and has various other responsibilities across the 14 tracks which make up Jockey Club Racecourses. In his 20 plus years in the racing industry, Andy has worked on almost every aspect of the sport, including for the BHA in race planning, as PR Director for two of the biggest betting organizations, as a consultant for Racing UK and as Managing Director of a successful racehorse ownership syndicate.

He has been in his current role since January 2007.


Jon Ryan, Director of Communications, British Horseracing Authority
Jon Ryan joined the BHA in April 2008 from the Sunday Telegraph where he had been sports editor for eight years. A Fleet Street journalist for more than 30 years he joined the Daily Mail as a reporter in 1972 after working on local newspapers in west London and Reading on both sport and news. He covered a range of major national and international stories before moving to the Mail on Sunday and during his time there was news editor, sports editor and assistant editor until joining the Telegraph in 1999. London-born, he spent part of his childhood in Epsom where his enthusiasm for racing was triggered.


Peter McNeile, Director of Sponsorship, Cheltenham Racecourse
Peter McNeile has a wealth of racecourse management experience at Cheltenham, Warwick, Kempton Park and Newmarket over more than 20 years. Responsible for the creation, sale and delivery of some of the foremost properties in the sport, he has handled many of the sport’s current iconic sponsor names and developed new communication channels to leverage their association.

Edward Prosser is a director of Racenews and writes about bloodstock for a number of publications including the Racing Post, Horse & Hound and Thoroughbred Owner Breeder.

Aintree
Aintree Racecourse near Liverpool is home to arguably the most famous race in the world, the John Smith’s Grand National, which draws a worldwide television audience of 600 million. The 3 day Grand National meeting in April attracts over 150,000 spectators. The track also races in October, November, May and June.

Ascot
Ascot stages a top class jumps programme from October to April. Amongst the highlights are the Coral Ascot Hurdle in November, the BGC Long Walk Hurdle and the Ladbroke at the Christmas Meeting, the recently promoted Grade One Victor Chandler Chase in January and the Betfair Ascot Chase in February. Ayr
The home of the Coral Scottish Grand National, Ayr Racecourse is situated on the beautiful west coast of Scotland, a short drive from Glasgow. Ayr’s jump racing season consists of 11 fixtures, beginning in November and ending in April.

Bangor-on-Dee
On the border between England and Wales, beside the River Dee, Bangor is renowned for staging attractive and competitive jump racing. Unique in that it is the only British track without a grandstand, the countryside provides a natural amphitheatre. Their 15 fixtures are spread evenly throughout the calendar.

Carlisle
Located on the outskirts of the historic border city of Carlisle, the undulating course is set in spectacular open countryside with Jump racing staged from October to April. The track enjoys strong local support and is popular with jockeys and trainers.

Cartmel
Set in the stunning Lake District, Cartmel Racecourse attracts large crowds for each of its six days of Jump racing during the year, including meetings over both the Spring and August bank holidays.

Catterick Bridge
Situated in Richmond, North Yorkshire, Catterick Bridge retains much of its rural appeal and character. The track has 10 competitive Jump racing fixtures between November and March including popular New Year’s Day and Christmas Bank Holiday meetings.

Cheltenham
Against a backdrop of the Cotswold hills, the track hosts jumping’s biggest meeting, the Cheltenham Festival, which over its four days in March attracts around 230,000 spectators. In all there are 17 fixtures of excellent quality each year, with the three day Paddy Power sponsored Open in November and the following month’s Boylesports International other highlights.

Chepstow
Set amid the picturesque Wye Valley, between Bristol and Cardiff, Chepstow is a popular track with jump enthusiasts hosting several days of quality racing, the highlight of which is the Coral Welsh National, held on the day after Boxing Day.

Doncaster
Doncaster Racecourse in south Yorkshire reopens this autumn after a £32 million refurbishment project. The highlight of its jump racing calendar is the Great Yorkshire Chase in January.

Exeter
An attractive and popular racecourse in the South West, Exeter racecourse is located just outside the city high upon Haldon Hill. The views of the jumping action on this undulating course are excellent and the course’s feature event among its 17 fixtures is the Haldon Gold Cup in November. The course recently joined the Jockey Club Racecourses Group.

Fakenham
Fakenham Racecourse is located in a setting with unspoilt views across the Norfolk countryside. The small but well supported racecourse offers ten meetings during the Jump season, including some popular bank holiday fixtures.

Ffos Las
Ffos Las is the first turf racecourse to open in Great Britain for more than 80 years. Set in one of the most beautiful parts of Wales, the 600 acre racecourse will hold 28 race meetings in 2010, including with 16 Jumps days.

Folkestone
The only racecourse in Kent, surrounded by breathtaking scenery, Folkestone hosts 9 well attended and competitive jump fixtures from November to May, including the valuable ‘Kent National’, a real highlight within Folkestone’s Jumps programme.

Fontwell Park
Fontwell Park, near Arundel, West Sussex, has been voted ‘Best Small Racecourse in the South East’ by the Racegoers Club for the past 19 years. The track, which hosts 23 meetings a year, is just a mile round and the unique figure of eight steeplechase course allows spectators to get close to the action. A new £6.5 million Grandstand opens in August 2010.

Haydock Park
Situated between Liverpool and Manchester and set within 130 acres of parkland, Haydock Park is renowned for staging quality Jump racing from October to May. Highlights include the Betfair Chase in November, the Peter Marsh Chase in January and the toteswinger Swinton Hurdle in May.

Hereford

Hexham
Easily accessible from both Newcastle and Carlisle, Hexham stages quintessential grass roots Jump racing, and is located just south of Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland. From March till June, then again in the autumn till January, there is a mix of mid week and weekend events. This is a course for holiday maker and enthusiast alike.

Huntingdon
Situated in the village of Brampton, Cambridgeshire, Huntingdon Racecourse stages 19 competitive and attractive racedays from August through to May. Providing a progressive learning track for horses, Huntingdon attracts the future stars of tomorrow. The most valuable fixture is the Peterborough Chase Day in December, but it’s as well known for its annual Mascot Grand National each October.

Kelso   
Labelled ‘Britain’s Friendliest Racecourse’ Kelso Racecourse is set in the stunning countryside of the Scottish Borders. It is renowned for its warm and friendly atmosphere and hosts 14 jump meetings from October to May. Renowned as a “nursery” for future stars over both hurdles and chases, their unique steeple chase fences are used by all Northern trainers to introduce quality young horses. Kempton Park
Kempton Park in Sunbury-on-Thames is the closest racecourse to central London. The Jump tracks are next to the Grandstand, but the course also stages floodlit racing all year round on the all-weather track. The Jump season runs from October to April. Annual highlights are the William Hill Winter Festival, featuring the William Hill King George VI Chase on Boxing Day, and the Racing Post Chase in February.

Leicester
Based just outside the city in Oadby, Leicester Racecourse covers 200 acres and has more than 100 years of history. The course hosts a range of competitive Jump meetings from November through until March.

Lingfield Park
Set in the Surrey countryside, Lingfield Park not only hosts Flat racing on the All Weather and Turf but also stages quality jump racing from December through to March. Season highlights include the December Novices Chase and Summit Junior Hurdle.

Ludlow

Market Rasen
Set in attractive Lincolnshire countryside, Market Rasen races throughout the year, both winter and summer, and stages the most competitive and valuable jump fixtures of the summer months. In total there are 22 meetings at the course, more than half of which take place at weekends. Market Rasen has been in the vanguard of the highly successful introduction of Summer Jump racing.

Musselburgh
Jump racing was introduced to Musselburgh racecourse in 1987 and has been a popular feature of the east coast track ever since. The course, which has invested heavily in improved facilities during recent years, is situated to the east of Edinburgh and is easily reached via the A1.

Newbury

Newton Abbot

Perth
Situated in the beautiful grounds of Scone Palace Park on the banks of the River Tay. The season opens with their flagship meeting, the Perth Festival, in April. Plumpton
Plumpton Racecourse is one of the most successful smaller jump racecourses in the country, staging 16 National Hunt meetings from September to May. Sandown Park
Sandown Park is the capital’s premier racecourse, only 25 minutes direct from London Waterloo and easily accessible from the M25 via the A3, Sandown Park has a superb atmosphere, wonderful parade and pre parade rings and unparalleled viewing. Situated on the edge of the town in Shakespeare country, Stratford hosts 16 Jump fixtures a year between March and October. The course stages a number of well attended and keenly contested jump meetings throughout the summer months, many either in the evening or at the weekend.

Taunton
Taunton is a beautifully located racecourse, with stunning views of the Blackwood Hills in Somerset. There are 14 Jump race meetings per year, with regular meetings from November to April. THE HORSERACING SPONSORS ASSOCIATION
The HSA represents the interests of all parties that have a vested interest in horseracing sponsorship; providing practical help and advice both sponsors, their agents and property holders, and working with members to promote sponsorship in horseracing.

Working closely with other Industry bodies, the HSA aims to raise the standard of service for sponsors to the highest level.

The HSA organizes regular networking events and updates members on sponsorship and Industry matters via its newsletter – Brandwagon, its website – www.horseracingsponsors.com and regular emails.

Annual membership fees are on a tiered basis determined by the size of the organization, and start at £300.
